DBD: Windx Client Launcher
This guide walks you through installing and configuring the WindX Plugin 2017 on a Windows workstation. This setup is required to establish a secure connection between a local machine and a Linux-based DB Distributor server during a new workstation setup or reconfiguration.
Before You Begin
- Estimated Time: 15–20 minutes
- Workstation Requirements: Windows OS with local Administrator privileges.
- Network Access: SSH port access (Default Port:
22) must be open between the workstation and the server. - Server Details Needed: Your DB Distributor server IP address or DNS hostname, and your system user ID.
Step-by-Step Instructions
I. Download and Install the WindX Plugin
- Navigate to the PxPlus Download Archive
- Scroll to the bottom of the list and click the last item to download the installer file.
- Launch the downloaded installer on the workstation.
- Click Next on the welcome screen.
- Select Accept, then click Next.
- Click Next to proceed past the Setup Type screen.
- Enter your User Name and Organization Name, then click Next.

Confirm or change the installation directory. The recommended default path is:
C:\PVX Plus Technologies\Windx Plugin 2017 Upd 1Click Next.
- Select Anyone who uses this computer, then click Next.
- Click Finish to complete the installation wizard.
II. Create a Desktop Shortcut
- Open your Windows Start Menu or installed programs and navigate to: Windx Plugin 2017 Upd 1 > Client Launcher.
- Right-click Client Launcher, select More, and click Open File Location.
- In the file explorer window that opens, right-click Client Launcher again and select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut).
III. Configure a Connection Profile

Launch the Client Launcher using your new desktop shortcut.
Configure a new connection profile using the following settings:
- Connection Name: Enter a descriptive name. (Note: Avoid using special characters, especially
/, if you plan to use the shortcut link feature later). - Connection Type: Select
SSH. - Server: Enter your DB Distributor server's IP address or DNS hostname.
- Port: Keep as
22(Default). - User: Enter your system user ID (Optional—can be left blank to prompt on launch).
- Connection Name: Enter a descriptive name. (Note: Avoid using special characters, especially
- Click Save. The profile will save under the name provided in the Connection Name field.
- (Optional) Select your new connection profile and click Make Link File to save a direct-launch shortcut file directly to your desktop.
IV. Configure Client Security Authorization
- When launching your WindX connection for the first time, a prompt will ask: "Do you want to enable security?"
- Select Enable (Recommended) to activate client-side resource access controls.

Warning: Selecting Disable grants unrestricted workstation access without notifications.
When the Allow Remote Access authorization window pops up requesting host access, adjust the following:
- In the scope dropdown, select All requests from this host (Recommended). This prevents repeated prompts during your active sessions.
- Click Allow Access.
⚠️ Critical Note: If authorization is not granted or is configured incorrectly, your active DB Distributor sessions will immediately encounter an ERR# 61 — Authorization failure error.
V. Create the DB_Reports Folder
- Open your Windows File Explorer, navigate to your local C: Drive, and create a new folder named exactly:
DB_Reports- Note: This folder is strictly required to handle printing reports to PDF from the DB Distributor platform.
