DBD: Windx Client Launcher

This guide walks you through installing and configuring the WindX Plugin 2017 on a Windows workstation. This setup is required to establish a secure connection between a local machine and a Linux-based DB Distributor server during a new workstation setup or reconfiguration.

Before You Begin

  • Estimated Time: 15–20 minutes
  • Workstation Requirements: Windows OS with local Administrator privileges.
  • Network Access: SSH port access (Default Port: 22  ) must be open between the workstation and the server.
  • Server Details Needed: Your DB Distributor server IP address or DNS hostname, and your system user ID.

Step-by-Step Instructions

I. Download and Install the WindX Plugin

  1. Navigate to the PxPlus Download Archive
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the list and click the last item to download the installer file.
  3. Launch the downloaded installer on the workstation.
  4. Click Next on the welcome screen.
  5. Select Accept, then click Next.
  6. Click Next to proceed past the Setup Type screen.
  7. Enter your User Name and Organization Name, then click Next.
  8. Confirm or change the installation directory. The recommended default path is: C:\PVX Plus Technologies\Windx Plugin 2017 Upd 1

    Click Next.

  9. Select Anyone who uses this computer, then click Next.
  10. Click Finish to complete the installation wizard.

II. Create a Desktop Shortcut

  1. Open your Windows Start Menu or installed programs and navigate to: Windx Plugin 2017 Upd 1 > Client Launcher.
  2. Right-click Client Launcher, select More, and click Open File Location.
  3. In the file explorer window that opens, right-click Client Launcher again and select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut).

III. Configure a Connection Profile

  1. Launch the Client Launcher using your new desktop shortcut.

Configure a new connection profile using the following settings:

    • Connection Name: Enter a descriptive name. (Note: Avoid using special characters, especially / , if you plan to use the shortcut link feature later).
    • Connection Type: Select SSH  .
    • Server: Enter your DB Distributor server's IP address or DNS hostname.
    • Port: Keep as 22   (Default).
    • User: Enter your system user ID (Optional—can be left blank to prompt on launch).
  2. Click Save. The profile will save under the name provided in the Connection Name field.
  3. (Optional) Select your new connection profile and click Make Link File to save a direct-launch shortcut file directly to your desktop.

IV. Configure Client Security Authorization

  1. When launching your WindX connection for the first time, a prompt will ask: "Do you want to enable security?"
    • Select Enable (Recommended) to activate client-side resource access controls.
    • Warning: Selecting Disable grants unrestricted workstation access without notifications.

When the Allow Remote Access authorization window pops up requesting host access, adjust the following:

    • In the scope dropdown, select All requests from this host (Recommended). This prevents repeated prompts during your active sessions.
    • Click Allow Access.

⚠️ Critical Note: If authorization is not granted or is configured incorrectly, your active DB Distributor sessions will immediately encounter an ERR# 61 — Authorization failure error.

V. Create the DB_Reports Folder

  1. Open your Windows File Explorer, navigate to your local C: Drive, and create a new folder named exactly: DB_Reports
    • Note: This folder is strictly required to handle printing reports to PDF from the DB Distributor platform.

🎯 Expected Outcome: The WindX Plugin 2017 is fully installed, your server connection profile is active, and the workstation is authorized to allow DB Distributor to access local printing resources smoothly.
