FAQ's:
Does activating the Real Freight option in DBC pull in the published rates of all carriers?
Short answer: No.
Activating the Real Freight option in DBC does not automatically pull in the published rates for every carrier. Real Freight relies on specific database configurations that must be set up for your environment.
How the configuration works
For each Ship Via code, you tell us:
- Which carrier it should be linked to (e.g., FedEx, UPS)
- Which service level should be used to pull the rate (e.g., Ground, 2-Day, Overnight)
Example configuration:
| Ship Via Code | Carrier | Service |
|---|---|---|
| A | FedEx | FEDEX_GROUND |
| B | FedEx | FEDEX_2_DAY |
| C | FedEx | FEDEX_EXPRESS_SAVER |
| F | FedEx | PRIORITY_OVERNIGHT |
| n | FedEx | FEDEX_GROUND |
| 8 | UPS | Ground |
| H | UPS | Ground |
| I | UPS | 2ndDayAir |
| J | UPS | 3DaySelect |
| K | UPS | NextDayAir |
What if the published rates don’t match expectations?
Many clients have reported that UPS rates tend to pull lower than expected, while FedEx rates are more accurate.
Because of this, a Ship Via code labeled “UPS Ground” may still be configured to pull FedEx Ground rates instead—if that produces more accurate freight calculations.
If you’d like to adjust how your Ship Via codes are mapped, just let us know and we can update the database configuration accordingly.
