Q-Design - How do you install/license a new font?
Summary
How do you license a font? Adobe font, Google font, custom font, etc.
Resolution Steps
We've updated our font policy to protect our customers from any potential license violations. We've found that in most cases, customers/distributors have obtained the license rights to use the fonts for their specific purpose (desktop use), but it doesn't typically apply to the online customization workflow that is available on our products like Q-Design or Chili publish in DB Commerce. As such, we'd like to work with you to make sure that we can obtain a license from the font designer for use in our products.
Often, we have found that there is an additional fee required for online customization licensing. We have already made arrangements with a few font foundries for fast pricing, so if you are using a font available in those libraries, we'll be able to provide pricing quickly and there will be no risk of not having an appropriate license. In addition, we have found that Google Fonts has a large library of high quality and free fonts that you can use. If we can't find the font in one of those sources, we will reach out to the font designer and work with them to create a custom license for our usage scenario.
Alternately, if your client is willing to use a different font (or a similar Google font) we can help you find one that might be similar.
To inquire about licensing a font, please create a support ticket and list the specific font(s) and weight(s) needed. Our support team will assist you with the process.
